Pittsburgh Arts Festival 2008

The Pittsburgh arts festival actually known as the Three Rivers Arts Festival is an annual event that happens in June. All around the downtown Pittsburgh, PA area. This tradition that has been around for nearly 50 years brings art of all sorts to the downtown area such as dance, theater, music and visual arts. The Pittsburgh Arts Festival runs this year from June 6 thru June 22, 2008. The Pittsburgh Arts Festival is a great showcase of not only local talent but also artists from around the world.

There are free concerts going on throughout the festival. The concerts are featured on three stages with about three different acts performing daily throughout the Pittsburgh Arts Festival. As with other years there is a very interesting mix of acts from various genres from alt-country to acid jazz from the youth performers of the CLO to seasoned glam rockers. This is a great way to experience new sounds that you may not have been exposed to before. Also experience old favorites such as glam rock pioneers the New York Dolls don't pass up the chance to see Buster Poindexter (David Johansen) back to his roots in the Dolls on Sunday, June 15.

At the Duquesne Light Artists Market find handmade wares from 300 artists that are available for purchase. There is also a guided tour on Festival Fridays. Also at the Pittsburgh Arts Festival Duquesne Light Artists Market there will be art making demonstrations and on June 14 junior artists will feature their artistic wares for sale.

Another feature at the Pittsburgh Arts festival are the numerous instances of performance art. Running the length of the festival there will be poetry readings, dance, plays, and other performances. Some of the plays do have a nominal cost usually only 5 bucks well worth the price.

Don't forget this year is Pittsburgh's big 250, check out Icing on the Cake at PPG Wintergarden. There will be decorative cakes in all kinds of media made to celebrate this great cities birthday.

The Pittsburgh Arts Festival is a unique bash that only comes about once a year. It is of course different every year. Take a few days this year and experience what Pittsburgh artists have to offer.
